Learn more about the International Centre for Evidence in Disability

The International Centre for Evidence in Disability (ICED) aims to establish LSHTM as an international centre with expertise and competence in disability research and teaching in the context of public health and development. The Centre draws together a diverse range of researchers across LSHTM, with broad skills and knowledge in the field of disability.

Our focus is on developing tools, techniques and evidence about disability, leading to scalable interventions, with the majority of our research undertaken in low and middle income countries.

We place a strong emphasis on translating research outcomes into practice and are closely linked to several international agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as CBM, to help achieve this goal.

ICED also collaborates with several centres and groups within LSHTM , for undertaking research, hosting of seminars, formal teaching and research degree supervision.

The Centre runs a teaching programme on disability within LSHTM, the Global Disability and Health course, and students are closely involved in our activities throughout the year. There is a separate ICED student group which meets regularly, and each year more than ten LSHTM MSc students undertake dissertations focusing on disability.
