A short description of the article: Analyzing the Economic Sustainability of Tourism Development: Evidence from Hong Kong

Despite the benefits that tourism can bring to the local hosting community, there is increased concern about the negative economic impacts of tourism on host communities. It is essential to assess tourism’s economic sustainability from both host and guests point of view. This article aims to develop and validate a scale for assessing economic sustainability from the perspective of local stakeholders. The study identified three dimensions of economic sustainability which includes economic positivity, development control, and individual welfare. The reliability and validity of the dimensions were confirmed and empirically tested by the data collected from Hong Kong. This article enhanced our understanding of tourism economic sustainability by expanding the measurement from the macro- level to the micro-level. Using the Hong Kong residents as study context, this study transcends previous research by providing a context to learn from an ongoing discussion about the effects of tourism on the host communities.

This article measures tourism’s economic sustainability from three dimensions. They are economic positivity, development control, and individual welfare.
