The previous National Tourism Administration predicts that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, China will transport 150 million Chinese tourists and the outbound tourism consumption will be about 200 billion U.S. dollars (CNTA 2016). At the same time, China will attract 85 million tourists from countries and regions along the OBAOR to visit China, and the inbound tourism spending will be about 110 billion U.S. dollars.

A series of silk road tourism policies have been implemented in provinces and cities along the OBAOR within China. The initiative promotes the upgrading and development of local tourism industry.

The provinces and cities along OBAOR are most under developed provinces and cities in western part of China. The OBAOR initiative can promote the tourism development in these regions, can support the further development of the tourism industy within these weastern regions of China.
