Skip to 0 minutes and 20 seconds The third principle is co-ordination. We need to optimize the allocation of resources. Resources are typically limited, and therefore we need to make parties in which case we need to co-ordinate to make sure that when we develop a plan that we plan to optimize the allocation of such resources. We need to avoid duplication as well as avoid environmental hazards. And what do we mean by this? Being careful where we locate our attractions, if it too close to the river, too close to the ocean, in times of storm or typhoon, you can running to problems.

Skip to 1 minute and 9 seconds You do not want to be located too near to be the forest because with these stems undergrowth and vegetation you know during hot and dry periods, you do not want your attraction or your destination to be frightened, you know by fire. So this first three principles of order, balance and co-ordination as I mentioned earlier on refer primarily to supply considerations.

Skip to 1 minute and 44 seconds The fourth principle is establishing an appropriate experience. And here we look at things from the prospective of the visitors and of the users. And when I referring to the users, I’m most referring to the employees and the staff of the attraction or the staff at the destination. So when we talk about the establishing an appropriate experience, we are talk about does it fit. What does this mean? Does it blend people with nature? Does it blend new with the old? And is it suit to scale and size? Taking you here to Hangzhou Tiandi in West Lake, and you see this is a newly constructed building and landscape area.

Skip to 2 minutes and 32 seconds You know that the building are built in a traditional Chinese style, we have nice landscaping trees, and if you look at the floor, the texture of the ground, it’s not plain,it has patterns. When we look at this particular photo, you see the experience provided is very pleasant, it’s a very pleasing one to the eyes. We talk about new with old, I’m taking you to Hong Kong now to the potentially hotel which is built in early 1900. The regional building as you note here is a five to six storey building. And as the hotel want to expand and because it was increasing demand for the type of faster hotel facilities direct provide, they let the building a new town behind.

Skip to 3 minutes and 29 seconds And you will notice that the design and architecture style of the building has been done to suit the regional architecture and the style of the original hotel building. When we talk about establishing an appropriate experience, we also need to think about the functional and technical aspect requirements. Your plans that you prepare should be practical and workable. You need to consider relationships between the attractions of the very support you know reviving your facility. We need to consider about access and the facilities where do you provide the facilities and the services. We need to consider aesthetics, so we talking here about appearance and the attractiveness of the destination,of the attraction. And then you’ll realize something that is subjective.

Skip to 4 minutes and 28 seconds Something that look attractive nice to me may appear ugly to you. And the important thing we need to understand when we talk about aesthetics and when we are talking about establishing an appropriate experience of things fit in is how well do things fit in. So integration here is an important element and aspect of establishing an appropriate experience. This is a traditional Chinese medicine shop in the old town of Hangzhou, when I came and entered in this medicine shop, my reaction was Wow. This is a wonderful and beautiful history building medicine shop, then when I turned to the left and looked at the counter. Look at this picture. What’s wrong? What do you notice there?

Skip to 5 minutes and 19 seconds On the right hand side you see a computer on the counter. If you look to a little bit to the top and the left of the computer, you can see some bags sitting there, a blue one,a red one,a gold one. In a few move along to the left, you see two toast ovens. Then the question is why do you have to have the computer on the counter top, the bags sitting on the shelf as well as the toast ovens? So when we talk about establishing an appropriate experience, we want to ensure that when you come visit an attraction and visit this Chinese medicine shop, you want to present it in the best light of possible.

Skip to 6 minutes and 9 seconds We don’t want these interruptions we see here, you know with the toast oven and the computer. Taking you here to the Maldives,

Skip to 6 minutes and 22 seconds this is a hotel room, would you like to stay there? Certainly Take advantage of the natural environment typically when we have the floor, we will cover the floor we cannot see what underneath. But think about the setting here in a tropical rife location, homeless would like to stay in this type of hotel room. And I think many of us would put up our hands and say I’d love to stay in this hotel. We need to talk about creation of intended atmosphere. Creating a sense of place. We need to eliminate an incongruous element. Something that is incongruous means stays out like a sofa, it doesn’t fit in. So if it doesn’t fit in, remove it.

Skip to 7 minutes and 16 seconds And often you may use landscaping, in order to cover up things you don’t want people to see or you use landscaping to enhance and make the surrounding area as attractive as possible.
