Skip to 0 minutes and 13 seconds In 2013 Taiwan International Pharmacy Profession Collaboration and Development Center was established by FAPA foundation At the same time department of pharmacy at Taipei Veterans General Hospital became the very FAPA international training centers for Good Pharmacy Practice In the following I’d like to show you what we have done in the last 6 years The first part I will introduce the progress and development of GPP training programs in Taiwan which will give you an idea about the evolution of GPP training courses in Taiwan And what are the highlights of the courses The second part is the overseas collaboration action with Indonesian Pharmaceutical Association in the recent two years And it is an ongoing plan I will show you more detail later
Skip to 1 minute and 26 seconds As I have told you in our introduction course the pioneer and soul of the GPP training program is Mr. Joseph Wang the president of FAPA In 2011 to fulfill the ultimate goal of implementation the GPP guideline in Asian country he initiated a series of international training programs in Taiwan With grants from Pharmaceutical Society of Taiwan and FAPA foundation and supports from several institution such as Taipei Veterans General Hospital and Taipei Medical University the first training courses were started in 2012 in Taipei Taiwan In the beginning the main focus of this program is hospital practice experience sharing among Asian countries The president invited Dr.
Skip to 2 minutes and 21 seconds Chou Yueh-Ching the director of pharmacy in Taipei Veterans General Hospital to fully support the program organizing committee And the committee members are experts from pharmacy department of several medical centers in Taiwan To design the training courses the first question is For the hospital what is the main contents in hospital practice We can use this slide to answer the question As you can see here for the hospital pharmacy practice what are the core elements From the life cycle of medicine and service flow of pharmacy we can divided into five main parts the inventory control prescribing dispensing administration and monitoring On the whole process we also need another group of pharmacists to do their clinical services to find out drug related problems and access the appropriateness of medication therapy make medication related care plan educate patients and follow up or monitoring the outcome of medication therapy On the same time the pharmacists are responsible for establishing a drug safety system and quality assurance plans to ensure the efficacy and safety of medication therapy To meet the goals the pharmacy need to help the hospital to build up IT infrastructure use some error proofing measures
Skip to 4 minutes and 16 seconds To introduce GPP and show the real world example in the beginning the organizing committee designed a total 2 days consecutive 16 hours courses which covers 8 topics focus on different category representing the process and services in hospital pharmacy The lecturers were from medical centers with excellent pharmacy practices experiences Each topic had 50 minutes lecture to introduce the pharmacy practice from individual hospitals the speakers highlight their best pharmacy practice Another 50 minutes we invited all the participant to introduce the current status of pharmacy practice in their own countries and gave feedback by the lecturer or participants

Skip to 5 minutes and 36 seconds We arranged field trips to the government such as Center Disease Control in Taiwan Of course we also arranged to visit two hospital in the vicinity of Taipei To understand the outcome of the programs we use questionnaires before and after the course Before the program we collect the basic information from the participating pharmacists including background their knowledge and attitude about GPP After the course we use another questionnaire to survey their satisfaction about the courses and their change toward the cognition and knowledge about the GPP And finally we evaluate their competence and confidence to implement GPP in their countries.
Skip to 6 minutes and 37 seconds The result from questionnaire showed that most participant considered pharmacist’s training education supportive system were the facilitator for GPP development On the other hand the barrier for implementing GPP were physician’s or pharmacist’s attitude about the provision of GPP and the system or physical environment or resources which enable GPP were insufficient For example some countries severely lack of computerized system for prescribing data collection The bar charts showed here that the understanding knowledge and confidence of adopting GPP were generally enhanced after the program The arrangement of the courses including the objective length structure and model examples all got positive feedbacks from the participants In the following year 2013 we kept the original design in basic GPP courses In addition we also created new two weeks advanced courses for the visiting scholars from Philippines The courses covered 5 domains and on-site field trips The visiting scholar include two professors from university of Philippines Dr.
Skip to 8 minutes and 22 seconds Roderick and Dr. Francis As you can see the two gentleman sitting in the right side of the left pictures In the middle is their dean Dr. Pena After the two weeks training program they proposed an action plan to implement GPP in Philippines and we invited experts to hold a proposal review meeting to evaluate the proposal and feedback to them.
Skip to 8 minutes and 59 seconds After the advanced training they visited professor proposed a pilot model for enhanced outpatient hospital pharmacy services using an academe-training hospital collaboration The project engage key players in planning implementing monitoring and evaluation of various aspect of the collaboration include Development teaching-learning methodologies that align educational objectives with current practice need Design and implement process changes in the delivery of various pharmacy services utilizing expertise and additional human resources from the academe and institutional partners
Skip to 10 minutes and 0 seconds Initiate infrastructure development that will support process reengineering and clinical pharmacy services The project total duration was 6 months with grants support from FAPA foundation The expected outcome are designed to make significant improvement in various aspect of hospital pharmacy services including operational efficiency patient safety and focused delivery of patient education services In 2013 in addition to advanced course participants we also host 11 basic course participants from 5 countries.
Skip to 10 minutes and 52 seconds Next year the GPP course committee made course reformation We ask our lecturer to make their presentation complied more with GPP guidelines And arrange more time for discussion and interaction in class We also revised the evaluation questionnaire do their video recording and change field trip to only one hospital In 2014 we had more diverse participants we have 14 scholarship awardees from 5 countries and 20 international pharmacy students from 9 countries They are through International Pharmacy Student Federation Asia Pacific Regional Office It implied that our program were already recognized by the international society In the same year FAPA bi-annual congress was held in Malaysia we arranged a GPP forum as a platform to present the outcome of GPP training courses We invited some GPP participants to feedback their experience action plans and outcome after GPP training We also shared the experience about the course development from the perspective of the training center From 2015 to date we have made further reform on the training courses For facilitating the connection between the didactic lectures and real world practice model we concentrated our topics from 8 to 6 And put more time in discussion and experience sharing in each topic For improving the consistency and better integration of the whole program we decided to only invite the lecturers from the organizing committee Each individual course was integrated with related field trip to facilitate the training To fulfill the goal the whole training perform in one single training center that is Taipei Veterans General Hospital
FAPA training program development
In 2013, Taiwan International Pharmacy Profession Collaboration and Development Center was established by FAPA foundation. At the same time, the department of pharmacy at Taipei Veterans General Hospital became the FAPA international training centers for Good Pharmacy Practice.
In the past 6 years, this program was held in Taiwan every summer. In this video, Director Chang will introduce the brief history of it.
