Do you still need more time with the Wall?

While our course has come to an end, this does not mean that your brief study of the Wall has to finish.

Every year, there are numerous events and fora that celebrate and share the latest news and research on Hadrian’s Wall. You might even bump into many of the experts you have met on this course! Two regular events to look out for next year are:

  • The Arbeia Society annual conference An annual one day conference, this took place this year on 14 November 2015 in South Shields, Tyne & Wear. Keep your eyes peeled for the 2016 event.
  • The Hadrian’s Wall Archaeology Forum This year on 28 November 2015, Queen’s Hall, Hexham, Northumberland. An annual one day conference featuring talks for anyone about new discoveries in the Hadrian’s Wall frontier zone. This year’s programme features talks on excavation projects at Maryport, Vindolanda, Wallsend, South Shields and Binchester.

In addition, there are organisations dedicated to the study of Roman frontiers and that offer lectures and other events for anyone with an interest:

And for further information you can always visit the official website for visiting Hadrian’s Wall.

Of course, we’re always happy to see new students at Newcastle University (see Bryan’s story) and we would be delighted to meet you in person on next year’s study tours!

You might be interested in English Heritage bringing Saturnalia, the Roman Winter Festival, to life on 5 December 2015 in informal sessions at Housesteads at 11am, 1pm and 3pm GMT.

And a final request: please do fill in the post-course survey. We are eager to hear your thoughts.
