Adopting your innovation

You have an innovative idea and have gained support from stakeholders and funders. You have piloted your innovation and have been able to demonstrate its success. We will now look at the techniques used to launch your innovation into routine practice, locally. We will consider who you need to influence to ensure this local adoption of innovation.

There are a number of steps you can take to help ensure a successful launch:

  1. It is important to assess your organisation’s readiness to embrace change and adopt the innovation. We recommend employing the Quaser Guide, this is a research based tool designed to help individuals within the health and social workforces to reflect on their preparedness to change their work practices and so adopt innovation.

  2. Be prepared to manage the change associated with adoption of the project. Unfortunately managing change in the NHS can be a very complex and highly challenging undertaking but there are tools available to help you, for example the NHS Change Model.

  3. It is crucial to communicate the launch to key stakeholders. This could involve face to face meetings, the use of printed material or digital media. Please bear in mind whichever communication channel(s) is chosen it must be appropriate for the stakeholder group you are wishing to target.

It is also important to sustain this flow of information for the duration of the project. That way you can maintain the stakeholder’s interest in the project and advertise your successful outcome.
