Viktor Dörfler is a Senior Lecturer in Information and Knowledge Management at the Management Science Department of the Strathclyde Business School. He is the leader of ‘Understanding Information and Technology Today’ course and he developed and delivers the teaching material. This is his second course on FutureLearn, the first one is ‘Understanding Modern Business and Organisations’.
Dr Dörfler gained masters degrees in Mathematical Engineering, International Business Relations, Engineering Education and an MBA from Hungarian universities. He holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde. Before joining the Department of Management Science at the Strathclyde Business School, he worked as a university lecturer in Budapest, Hungary. He has also worked as an independent software development consultant.
Dr Dörfler is a dedicated teacher. Most of his teaching is in the area of information and knowledge management but he also teaches a course on research philosophy to doctoral students. He teaches in four countries and in three languages. He has numerous Teaching Excellence Awards - in 2013 he was shortlisted for the Best Teacher of the Business School and in 2016 for the Most Innovative Teacher of the Strathclyde University.
Dr Dörfler’s research is focused on two interrelated areas: the first covers modelling of personal knowledge and knowledge increase in an organisational context; the second covers knowledge-based expert systems, in particular Doctus KBS, and related intelligent applications such as intelligent corporate portals and e-learning systems. Having developed a model of levels of personal knowledge, in his most recent research he interviewed 20 people who are arguably at the highest level of knowledge, including 17 Nobel Laureates.
