During this module we will cover the principles of pre-contract management practices for the procurement and tendering of construction projects. We will explore pre-tender documentation, Such as the bill of quantities, along with the project factors that influence this decision. We will also discuss the role and responsibilities of construction project and cost managers, along with the practices that are currently used during the pre-contract stages of a construction project. Throughout this module we're also bringing you a number of short animations that serve as an evolving case study, detailing the processes of pre-contract management.

Welcome to the course
In this course we will concentrate on construction procurement and construction tendering.
We look forward to exploring these topics with you over the next two weeks, as well as providing you with the tools to understand how you might improve your own area of practice.
This week we will:
- Introduce and explain the RIBA Plan of Work 2013
- Develop the client’s brief, focusing on project time, cost and quality
- Appraise established construction procurement strategies
- Review newer construction procurement strategies
This short course is an introductory two-week course for a program in Pre-contract Management Practice which forms part of the MSc in Construction Project and Cost Management online degree at Coventry University, delivered on FutureLearn.
