What will we learn?
We will start our course with the basic building blocks of journalism practice: researching and interviewing.
After completing this week, you should know:
What news is
How to distinguish between a good quality news story and a poor quality one
Where and how to begin researching a story
How to interview people in a way that matches their position and the type of information you want from them
To achieve all this, you’ll get to watch one video about the theory of news selection (news values) and several practical videos about research and interviewing. You’ll have several individual exercises to practise what you’ve learned. You’ll hear from practising journalists from around the world about their personal approach to research and interviewing, and their opinion on what makes a good news story.
