Skip to 0 minutes and 0 secondsProf Ahn: Hello, I am Ahn Jung Ho and, today too, there are two students here with me to learn Korean.

Skip to 0 minutes and 10 secondsAnna: Hello, I am Anna.

Skip to 0 minutes and 12 secondsJoel: Hello, I am Joel.

Skip to 0 minutes and 15 secondsProf Ahn: Today we are studying how to buy something at a clothes store. First we are going to learn how to ask about the price. I'll start. How much is this T-shirt?

Skip to 0 minutes and 34 secondsJoel: It’s 30,000 won. Please try it on.

Skip to 0 minutes and 38 secondsProf Ahn: Yes. "Eolmayeyo?" is used when asking for the price. If you want to ask the price of a T-shirt, you should say "i tisyeocheu eolmayeyo?" and if you want to ask about the price of a skirt, it’s "i chima eolmayeyo?". When asked this question, the employees will tell you the price followed by "______ won-ieyo.". They will also tell you to try the clothes on, to see if it suits you and fits well. In that case they’ll say "hanbeon ibeoboseyo". So, shall we practice a bit more with other words? This time, you two, try to do it on your own.

Skip to 1 minute and 29 secondsAnna: How much is this skirt?

Skip to 1 minute and 31 secondsJoel: It’s 50,000 won. Please try it on.

Skip to 1 minute and 34 secondsAnna: Yes. Thank you.

Skip to 1 minute and 36 secondsProf Ahn: This time, Joel, try do the part of the customer.

Skip to 1 minute and 41 secondsJoel: How much are these pair of pants?

Skip to 1 minute and 44 secondsAnna: They’re 60,000 thousand won. Try putting them on.

Skip to 1 minute and 47 secondsProf Ahn: Very well done. So far, we've practiced asking for the price of things. So now let's study a few more words to practice today’s expressions.

Understanding expressions 1

Please follow the instructions with the educator.

‘얼마예요?’ is used when asking for the price. If you want to ask the price of a t-shirt, you should say “이 티셔츠 얼마에요?” and If you want to ask about the price of a skirt, it’s ‘이 치마 얼마에요?’.

When asked this question, the employees will tell you the price followed by ‘__원 이에요.’. They will also tell you to try the clothes on, to see if it suits you and fits well. In that case they’ll say ‘한번 입어 보세요’.

Example)

  • A : 이 치마 얼마예요?

  • B : 오만 원이에요. 한번 입어 보세요.

  • A : 네, 감사합니다.
