Learning Outcomes for Week 5

At the end of Week 5 you should be able to :-

  1. Play a pentatonic scale in any key
  2. Play “Blackbird” unaccompanied and use the pentatonic scale to solo over most of the first chorus and then use full scales
  3. Know the Ioanian modes and know how to get the parent major scale for any root of a mode
  4. Understand how to play the major scale exercise discussed in the Session and practice doing so in the important keys
  5. Know the Melodic Minor Ascending modes and know how to get the parent Melodic Minor Ascending scale for any root of a mode
  6. Play “Solar” with a playalong making use of the appropriate scales
  7. Know the 3 diminished scales and their modes
  8. Know the Whole Tone, Harmonic Minor, Harmonic Major and Spanish Phrygian scales
  9. Play “Stella By Starlight” with a playalong making use of the appropriate scales
