This week’s study group task

Learn more about your study group task for Week 4.

This week is all about intellectual property law and how it gives protection to ideas, and expressions of ideas and non-tangible, non-real property. Traditionally, copyright was granted ‘for the life of the author, plus ‘X’ Years. As private property rights become more accepted and valuable, ‘X years’ has been gradually increased; what is the protection currently afforded to you in your jurisdiction today?

In your study group this week, you’re going to discover and share the copyright duration for works in your jurisdiction and then share your research with the rest of the learners in the course.

What you need to do

  1. As a group, decide who will be your reporter for this week’s task. Their job is to share with other learners what you’ve produced as a group. Consider having more than one reporter in your study group, if there happens to be a need later in the week.

  2. By yourself, work through the course, completing Law in your backyard. Afterwards, continue your research into copyright protection in your jurisdiction and identify the duration or length of copyright protection and any recent changes. Share your findings with your group.

  3. As a group, discuss the various findings and any observations then compile a list (in an agreed comparable format) of the various durations from each jurisdiction.

  4. If you’re the reporter, share the list (including a summary of key shared observations) with other learners in the Comments section of the Weekly feedback for week 4 step by Thursday 23 February.
