This week, we're going to be focusing on thoughts and feelings, and how we can manage our thoughts and deal with distressing feelings. We're also going to be thinking about family communication and how to reduce conflict. And finally, we're going to be reflecting on what resilience means to you, and what you're learning about the way that you cope. We will finish the course with some additional resources that we feel you might find helpful.

Welcome to Week 2

Welcome back to the second week of COVID-19: Helping Young People Manage Low Mood and Depression. Watch Dr Monika Parkinson introduce Week 2.

We’ll start this week by focusing on difficult thoughts and feelings and highlight some practical tips for managing these. You’ll also explore ways of promoting effective communication within the household, including strategies for getting along and effective problem solving. Finally, you’ll think about what you’ve learnt about yourself in recent weeks, your style of coping, what skills you may have gained, and how you can continue to use these going forward.

There will be time to reflect on what you’ll take away from the course and we’ll include links to further information and resources.

Monika, Faith, Michelle, Will and Aggie will support the discussions until 29 May so continue to contribute to these conversations if you feel able to. Last week we suggested using an activity planner in order to help you structure your day. You may wish to continue doing this, or to revisit Step 1.5 if you didn’t get a chance to try this before.
