Research confirms that rules and routines established with students support personal change and teaching and learning in the classroom.

As long ago as 1995, Colvin and Lazar set out three types of routines which you may wish to consider gaining and maintaining an orderly learning environment.

Your knowledge of routines should help instill new habits for students. A more recent book, ‘The Power of Habit’, by Charles Duhigg, contains a simple flowchart and provides real world examples and case studies of new habit formation within individuals and groups of people. It should help you when influencing students to adopt supportive routines.
