Wrapping up the course
Congratulations for completing this course! It is now time to quickly recap some of the key points we have covered over the past three weeks.
In week 1, we illustrated how international migration has been a global phenomenon across history, which has not been just confined to movement towards to developed countries of the Global North. We introduced the basic idea of push and pull factors and how these have been brought closer together as a result of major changes in communication and transportation and in the expansion of fundamental rights.
In week 2 we focused on a set of theories that explain why migration starts and continues. We also addressed the question of return migration, an aspect that is often overlooked in public discussions about migration.
Finally, in week 3, as we have just seen, we saw how some these theories work in practice by using them to explain three different cases of international migration: remittances, domestic and care work, and temporary labour migration within the Global South.
