Welcome to week 3

We hope that last week provided you with a useful overview of some key theories that are used to explain migration.

In the third and last week of our course, we will draw on these theories to make better sense of three case studies of migration. First we will look at the impact of migrants’ remittances on development in Africa. Second, we will consider the reasons why the European care and domestic market has come to increasingly depend on migrant labour. Third, we will discuss the mass migration of Indians to the Gulf region where, in cities like Dubai, they constitute over 40% of the residential population but do not possess citizenship.
