This week's study group task

Learn more about your study group task for Week 1.

This week is all about introducing you to mindfulness. You’ll learn more about what it means to be mindful and unmindful and why mindfulness matters to your personal and professional life. In your study group this week, you’re going to share what you have learned about mindfulness, your experiences with mindfulness so far and how you’re hoping to incorporate mindfulness into your life. You will also have an opportunity to top tips for mindfulness. The list can be shared with the other learners in the course to help them with their learning.

What you need to do

  1. Go to your study group and introduce yourself to the other members of your group.

  2. As a group, decide who will be your reporter for this week’s task. Their job is to share with other learners the work you’ve produced as a group. This helps to share the workload if it gets busy later in the week.

  3. As a group, discuss what being mindful means to you. If this is your first time taking part in this course, tell other learners what you know of mindfulness and what you’re hoping to achieve by taking part in this course. If you’ve taken part in this course before, tell other learners what you learned last time and why you’re taking part in the course again. Be sure to describe the impact that mindfulness had on your life and the types of things you do to remain mindful. Remember to only share things that you’re happy for others to read in an open forum.

  4. By yourself, work through the week. Engage with the content and other learners, learning more as you go. Take time to do the meditations (use the MP3s to guide you). Remember that regular meditation practice and application of mindfulness is very important, along with learning about the concepts of mindfulness.

  5. From Wednesday 8 February, work as a group to draft a brief summary (bullet points, short phrases or single sentences are fine) of the definition of mindfulness, its impact and techniques that have been suggested by the group members. Discuss any changes or amendments you’d like to make and agree on the final format.

  6. If you’re the reporter, share the summary with other learners in the Comments section of the Feedback from Craig and Richard for Week 1 by Thursday 9 February.
