Genomic Technologies in Clinical Diagnostics: Next Generation Sequencing forms part of the Genomics in Healthcare program, along with the two other courses The Genomics Era: the Future of Genetics in Medicine and Genomic Technologies in Clinical Diagnostics: Molecular Techniques.

The program allows learners to explore higher-level material relating to genomic data in more depth. For those that wish to develop their studies further, these postgraduate courses will provide you with the teaching component of module 1 of the Postgraduate Certificate in the Interpretation and Clinical Application of Genomic Data (PGCert ICAG) from St George’s, University of London.

If you are interested in undertaking further studies, then St George’s, University of London (email: study@sgul.ac.uk) runs the following postgraduate courses in genomics:

1) MSc in Genomic Medicine

This course follows a curriculum designed by Health Education England and is suitable for healthcare professionals and other students with an interest in Genomic Medicine. As a jointly taught programme delivered by St George’s and King’s College London, students will benefit from the breadth of expertise provided by both institutions.

Students will learn how recent technological advances have transformed how genetic data is generated, analysed and presented and its relevance to a range of clinical scenarios.

This will be a flexible programme, structured to provide options for PGCert and PgDip awards as well as the MSc.

Funding is available from Health Education England (HEE) for NHS employees wishing to apply for the programme (and individual modules). Prospective students wishing to apply for this funding should do so before applying for the course.

2) Post Graduate Certificate in The Interpretation and Clinical Application of Genomic Data (PGCert ICAG)

This is a course for clinical geneticists, recognising the unique needs of this specialised, expert workforce.

The full course is embedded into the UK clinical genetics training programme, but individual modules can be undertaken for continuing professional development by consultants, and international clinical geneticists.
