Skip to 0 minutes and 4 secondsWelcome back! After emerging from the delights of Freshers' Week, well now focus a little on academic skills. No one arrives at university as a ready-made scholar, and over the coming steps, well look at the foundations of university life, based on what current students think you need to know. The main thread throughout this week is how your upcoming study will differ from what you may have undertaken before. Well look at the different types of teaching sessions you'll experience, how to become a critical thinker, why the library is much more than the place where the books live, and end with a brief guide to how assessment works...

Welcome to Week 2

Welcome to the second week of our course!

Over the coming steps, you will hear from learners and support staff on the range of help that is available here at the University of York but is likely to also be available at most other learning institutions.

Thanks for joining us again - we’ll now start to tackle the not-actually-so-thorny topic of academic skills.

The key thing to note is that no one is expected to arrive at university knowing everything you need to know - it’s the journey, fuelled by your own intellectual curiosity, that’s the all-important thing.

Let’s go!
