Discussion

Now, what do you remember from Alex’ text?
Did you notice that the sentence structure we use in Norwegian to tell how old a person is, is very similar to English?
We also say:
I am + old Jeg er + gammel
How old are they? Hvor gamle er de?
Many languages, however, differ quite a lot from Norwegian and English. And you don’t have to travel very long distances to find linguistic differences: Romance languages like Italian, French or Spanish, for instance, use “to have” instead of “to be”.
How is it in your language?

And, supposed your mother tongue is not English, did you find it difficult to learn this structure in English? Could you apply the same learning strategy to learn it in Norwegian?

Think about it!
