Welcome to the course

Nursing represents the largest workforce in health systems throughout the world and nurses are equipped with knowledge and the skills to promote the public health.

This short course looks at our understanding of how our role and area of practice, our experiences and where we work influence our contribution.

This week you will:

  • explore definitions of public health, globalisation and global health and how they relate to each other
  • examine factors that influence health and wellbeing
  • identify why nurses need to change how they work to improve future health and wellbeing
  • reflect on the knowledge and skills you bring to public health and what being involved in public health will mean for your professional development
