Hello and welcome to Caring for Older People: a Partnership Model.

Ageing and some of the challenges it represents can be a daunting experience for older people, their family, their friends and healthcare teams alike.

What you’ll be learning

The purpose of this course is to help you better understand and address these challenges by:

  • understanding ageing from the perspective of older people and those who care for them
  • approaching the care of older people within a collaborative and partnership-centred model
  • promoting the wellbeing of older people by supporting their needs and preferences
  • creating a more positive environment for all by implementing a range of practical strategies.

Your learning outcomes

By completing this course you should be able to:

  • describe partnership-centred care
  • explain the benefits of a partnership-centred model of care for older people, their family, friends and healthcare teams
  • develop and apply partnership-centred care strategies to best support the needs and preferences of older people.

Meet the team

Your Lead Educator for this course is Alfred Deakin Professor Alison Hutchinson, a leading, internationally renowned practice-based research and teaching academic specialising in aged care.

Alison is supported in this course by Associate Professor Helen Forbes, an experienced academic who specialises in teaching, learning and the quality of student experience at Deakin University.

Also on hand to answer your questions is Kerry Rigby, a registered nurse, educator and research fellow at Deakin University.
