And so, with housekeeping activities out of the way, a warm welcome to our course!
Our first week is divided into the following core activities:
- 1) What is a picturebook?
Where we get to grips with definitions…
- 2) Word and Picture Relationships
In picturebooks, words and pictures love each other very much. Or not… We look at the various kinds of interaction between text and image.
- 3) Picturebooks and Literacy
Finally, we discuss three types of picturebooks – baby books, postmodern picturebooks, and picturebook apps – and try to work out which kinds of literacy they encourage and cultivate in children.
