Skip to 0 minutes and 8 secondsSometimes I think there's things that you might question in lectures or depending on your own knowledge of it. And I think it's really judging whether it's important to question then, and whether it's appropriate or not. My own interest in the subject brings up questions in my head and I just ask the lecturer. Having a good overview of the subject before you go into the lecture puts you at an advantage. You can understand the lecture much more clearly. With my lectures, it's very easy to ask the lecturer's questions. They are always open to ideas and suggestions from me. I definitely challenge the lecturer's views and thoughts.

I've been in the situation where I've felt a lecturer is wrong. And normally, you just question the lecturer at the time. Sometimes they are wrong and they'll say, oh, good, I'm glad someone's corrected me. Or sometimes they'll explain to you why what you said is a good reason that it's not right. And that's useful as well.
Skip to 1 minute and 8 secondsI normally have a pre-session reading before I go into lecture, so I'd read around the topic of which the lecture is going to discuss, so I can come up with questions before we go into the lecture and then gain as much as I can from the lecture. Lecturers themselves are quite good at awaking interest. And they're quite good responding to the question as they have such a broad knowledge of their field. I find it was very easy to ask questions. Lecturers are always available. You don't go to university to kind of blindly follow what your teacher says. You go there to develop yourself and develop your own interests.
Undergraduates talking about lectures
In this video undergraduates talk about issues relating to questioning and their approach to lectures. Have a listen to what they are saying and think about the points they make as you work on the material in the next step.
In the following step you will prepare to watch a five minute video of a lecture and think about your approach to the material. The topic of the lecture is ‘Origins of Life’.
