The world of work is rapidly evolving as we move through the fourth industrial revolution. As the pace of change has accelerated post-pandemic, parents are struggling to prepare their children for the future of work.

This two-week course from Nexgen will guide you through the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the fourth industrial revolution and will give you the confidence to help your child understand the challenges and opportunities of the future career landscape.

Explore the skills needed for the future of work

You’ll learn how to introduce your child and family to the rapidly evolving working world. As part of this, you’ll look at key terminology around the fourth industrial revolution, such as the internet of things, and what these aspects mean for your child.

Then, you’ll delve into the experience and transferable skills that your child will need to succeed in their future career, and what tools and resources can help build them.

This course will guide you through current trends shaping the future of work, including the impact of the internet of things on the current job market.

You’ll also look at how to take an optimistic approach to the future changes to the world of work and ways that you can support your child in adopting this type of approach.

  • Week 1

    Introduction to the Future of Work [Parents]

    • Course Overview

      In this first activity we want to guide you through the structure of the course and introduce you to your facilitator. Let's go.

    • Introduction to the Future of Work

      In this activity we will start thinking about how technology is affecting our jobs and how we need to guide our children to future proof their careers.

    • Jobs Of The Future

      We have seen that changes in the marketplace mean that jobs of the future are being dreamed up, designed and developed right now. Let's discover what these jobs are together!

  • Week 2

    Working with your child [Kids & Parents]

    • Introduce Your Child to the Future of Work

      During this activity your child will understand how job roles can change in the future of work. You will discuss how the 4th Industrial Revolution is already impacting some jobs.

    • Discover Together the Jobs of the Future

      When we talk about job roles with our children it is very easy to fall into solely talking about what we know. Now you should be able to recognise some of the other possibilities out there when it comes to future work.

    • The Skills of the Future

      From the previous activities you and your child now know a bit more about the future careers that might be interesting to them or the future roles they will take. Now it's time to identify the skills they need to the develop.
