Meet the Team!

Achieng Kokonya, Child Protection Specialist at the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, will be your course host and will be navigating us through this six-week course. Achieng’s child protection expertise is particularly concentrated on working with refugee populations and unaccompanied and separated children.

Your course co-host is Elena Giannini, the Learning and Development Focal Point with the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action. Elena and Achieng will support discussions, review polls and generally be available to support learners and their social engagement in the course.

Achieng and Elena strongly believe that this course will give you a holistic overview of the different dimensions of child protection during COVID-19. The course is built to allow you to work at your own pace while engaging with other learners from around the globe. Why miss such an opportunity?

You are encouraged to view Elena Giannini’s and Achieng Kokonya’s FutureLearn profiles and follow them both so you can easily see any comments they have made during the course.

About the Alliance The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action (the Alliance) is a global network of operational agencies, academic institutions, policymakers, donors and practitioners working in the area of child protection in humanitarian action. Co-led by UNICEF and Plan International, the Alliance envisions a world in which children are protected from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence in humanitarian settings. Its mission is to support the efforts of humanitarian actors to achieve high-quality and effective child protection interventions in both refugee and non-refugee humanitarian contexts. This is achieved through work in five broad categories:

  1. Standard setting and guidance development;

  2. Capacity building, learning and development;

  3. Evidence and knowledge generation;

  4. Advocacy; and

  5. Convening.
