Introduction to South Africa case study

Case Study on religion and peacebuilding: Public Apologies and Forgiveness - the case of South Africa

Another example of religion’s influence on peacebuilding we consider is the emergence of public apologies and forgiveness as important tools and processes for reconciliation and peacebuilding and in particular the case of South Africa. Public apologies and forgiveness are a particularly important mode of conflict resolution and peacebuilding because of their influence on collective memory, which, as we have seen throughout the course, is highly significant for understanding conflict and for working towards peace.
