Join the debate around weight loss and type 2 diabetes remission

There is a growing prevalence of diseases which can be directly linked to our modern lifestyle and diet. Research into preventing and reversing type 2 diabetes is now heavily focused on obesity and weight loss.

On this course, you will explore the physiological effects of weight gain and weight loss. You will consider what is meant by type 2 diabetes prevention, remission, reversal and cure.

You will also examine how those living with type 2 diabetes can help themselves, as well as the role of healthcare professionals in supporting self-management.

Skip to 0 minutes and 11 seconds The reversing diabetes MOOC sets out to provide the latest information as well as patient experiences of weight management programmes, which are specifically designed to achieve either diabetes remission or reversal. You’ll learn about the links between body weight and type 2 diabetes and why people who increase their body weight are at risk of type 2 diabetes. But also can you prevent it by losing body weight? And fundamentally, for a chronic condition, are you able to put type 2 diabetes into remission? The MOOC consists of a series of completion exercises, which are delivered over three weeks. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in activities such as reading articles.

Skip to 0 minutes and 55 seconds There are quizzes to check your learning and an opportunity to discuss with other students topics. There’s also a personal perspective from the person with diabetes and also health care professionals. What we would really like you to get from this course is to draw your own conclusions. Do you think that diabetes reversal is a real thing? Can remission be achieved by most people? But importantly, they will also have an appreciation of patient experiences and also attitudes towards these programmes. Type 2 diabetes reversal, is it fact or fiction?
