Skip to 0 minutes and 5 seconds PADDY UPTON: Hello. I’m Paddy Upton, coach to international athletes, executive coach to business leaders and teams, and an average but enthusiastic surfer. Welcome to this course on leadership and self-awareness. If you’ve engaged in my previous courses, it’s great to have you back. If you haven’t, if this is the first course you’ve enrolled in, I’d encourage you find my other courses and work through the materials, as they’ll give you a grounding for this one. Either way, I’m pleased to see you’re keen to learn more about coaching and leading.
Skip to 0 minutes and 40 seconds In this course, we’ll investigate who you are being as a leader and coach– deepening awareness of why you’re doing what you’re doing, exploring the personal values and intentions that drive your actions and your words, and what impacts you ideally want your work to have on those you’re leading, on your environment, and even in our world. This course focuses on you as leader and coach.
Skip to 1 minute and 7 seconds Just as you might look into the mirror in the morning to check your appearance, make adjustments to your hair or clothing or even posture, to match how you’d like to present yourself to the world, this course invites you to look into the mirror of your being– checking your intentions, motivations, your personal values, talents, and the internal, invisible qualities that make up who you are. With this insight or awareness, this course aims to help you make any internal adjustments or fine tuning in the pursuit of increased self-awareness, learning, personal mastery, and being even more effective and impactful as a leader and coach.
Let’s get started
Effective coaches understand how their values and intentions inform their approach to growing others.
Welcome to ‘The Self-aware Coach’ where the aim is to deepen our knowledge and awareness of self-awareness as a means of growing others.
In this course the examples and scenarios come from a sports coaching perspective, but the ideas and frameworks we use are applicable to other contexts including business leadership, teaching and even parenting.
This course aims to address the big question: What impact does being a self-aware leader have on our effectiveness in growing others?
You’re encouraged to share your thoughts, ideas and reflections with others in the comments and, in this way, actively engage in learning about the self-aware coach. We look forward to you learning from and with others in this social learning platform and are confident that your interactions with other learners will deepen and enrich your own learning.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Apply strategies to enhance self-awareness and reflect on who you’re being as a coach/leader
- Identify core personal values and determine how these may impact your coaching
- Reflect on how your self-awareness helps you be a more effective coach/leader
- Evaluate your values and actions to inform your leadership decisions.
