As we discussed in the Toms case, “impact” is quite a tricky concept.

In any society, there are a number of stakeholders. Your work may benefit some of them, but harm others in unexpected ways. Thus you need a systematic approach to measuring and evaluating impact from diverse directions.

Here is a five-step process you can use to measure and evaluate impact. It starts with the Theory of Change:

1) Theory of Change

2) Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

3) Data Collection and Analysis

4) Experimental or Quasi-Experimental Design

5) Randomized Controlled Trial

Please read the article ‘A Playbook for Designing Social Impact Measurement’ and discuss how we can use the five steps above to measure and evaluate the impacts Toms Shoes has had.
