Going beyond GDP

Here we explore how 'wellbeing approaches' respond to the widely recognized necessity of going 'beyond GDP' when assessing a country's performance.

In this video, we start exploring why GDP effectively became an important yardstick of a country’s performance, and what some of the flaws are when equating economic growth with wellbeing.

We briefly introduce a few examples of alternative approaches to assess and compare how countries are delivering prosperity – prosperity being understood in a way that goes beyond wealth and also includes other factors which can, to a certain extent, be independent of wealth, such as happiness, health and education.
