Welcome to week 3
This week, instead of looking at multiple projects, we will take a deep dive into “World Factory,” a 2014 play about Chinese workers and global capitalism, created by Shanghai-based theatre collective Grass Stage.
We will also revisit the workers’ theatre in Anyuan in the 1920s, and investigate the similarities and differences between the Anyuan workers’ theatre and the 2014 play “World Factory.” This comparison will enable us to develop a more historical understanding of socially engaged art in China. It will also help us to see some limitations of contemporary practices.
