Skip to 0 minutes and 1 second [Stella] STEM Ambassadors can use feedback to develop themselves in a number of ways. We as a STEM Ambassador hub we offer lots of different type of training. It might be that it informs their own personal development, They might have a performance review for instance where they’ve got certain target that they need to hit. We offer training for instance on careers advice. A lot of teachers are wanting to know a lot more about careers, but they don’t have the knowledge. And our STEM ambassadors are also in a similar boat. They want to be able to talk about apprenticeships for instance but they don’t have knowledge, hubs provide lots of different types of training.

Skip to 0 minutes and 40 seconds And feedback from that has told us that we need to offer more training on this. So it’s helped us but it’s also helped the STEM ambassadors because we’re now able to offer that training for them. So we have some STEM ambassadors who work in the same organisation get in touch with us. They wanted to develop a particular activity, they knew that they wanted to trial that activity as well. We’re quite lucky in that our hub is actually based in a museum, so we were able to get them to trial that activity on the museum floor.

Skip to 1 minute and 8 seconds But actually with your own local hubs, they will have their own local contacts and they will be working with the local volunteer organisations as well. So it might be that you could trial the activity, on a museum floor. but also within your local community for instance with Brownies groups or Cubs for instance.

Collaborating to improve

When you have received feedback, it can be challenging to determine how you can improve on your own. It is beneficial to identify the people who can help and support you to develop and improve, and the ways in which they can help you.

Collaborating with others to improve can involve discussing activities and improvements with them or trying out activities with them to see if they work. It can also involve identifying broader skills which you need to develop and finding out what training and development is available to assist you as a volunteer.

STEM Ambassador Hubs have a lot of experience of co-ordinating STEM activities with a wide variety of organisations. If you are a STEM Ambassador in the UK, they will be able to help and guide you.
