By the end of this course you will have created an activity plan for a volunteering activity. We’ll go through the planning process with you, building upon your ideas for a practical activity. If you are not sure what topic you wish to develop an activity on, we encourage you to complete the first course in the ExpertTrack on resources for volunteering activities.

A planning process

The planning process below shows a number of steps to planning an activity.

Planning process with three stages, described below

The planning process can be broken down into three stages:

  1. Discussion and planning – Communicating and negotiating with the educator, managing expectations and knowing your audience.

  2. Activity development – Knowing the number of participants, timings, risk assessment, learning outcomes, and logistics like location and parking.

  3. Activity delivery – What resources you need to bring, checking an educator will be present during the activity.

Download and read the planning process document. This presents a useful workflow for you to go through when developing your practical activity.

However, we want to ensure your activity both inspires and engages young people. In the next steps, we’ll think about how to achieve this.
