Meet the Team

As well as hearing from current and former medical students throughout this course, you’ll also meet a number of staff from the University of Glasgow Medical School and from doctors working in the NHS. Two of the staff who will be with you through the 3 weeks of this course are Dr Leah Marks and Dr Nana Sartania - so let’s begin with some introdcutions.

Dr Nana Sartania is a Senior lecturer in Medical Education and Deputy Director of Admissions at the University of Glasgow with over a decade of experience in shaping and implementing selection policies locally and nationally. She is a member of the Medical Schools Council’s Selection Alliance and its board, the INReSH (International Network for Researchers in Selection into Healthcare) and the Medical Schools’ Widening Participation Forum.

Dr Leah Marks, is also a Senior lecturer in the School of Medicine at the University of Glasgow. With a degree in Medical Biochemistry and a PhD in Developmental Medicine, her main interest is now in the field of Medical Genetics which she teaches to undergraduate students on the medical programme at Glasgow. She is also deputy director of the Student Selected Component (which you’ll hear more about later), and Women and Children’s Health Intercalated degree, and an advisor of studies to students from 1st-5th year.

We’re very enthusiastic about widening participation within medicine, and in particular that people learn about the multitude of career pathways that there are within this huge field. We’re really looking forward to meeting you all on this course. Note that the course will focus on applying for medical schools in the UK, however much of it is relevant for medical schools anywhere.

If you have any questions during the course, please don’t hesitate to post them in the comments thread which you will find at the end of each step. We’ll do our best to answer them for you - and of course we’d love if you would also answer each others’ questions.
