Introduction to week 4

In this article we introduce the contents of the final week of this course

In the first activity of this week we will present more food categories that could be considered superfoods: herbs and spices and dry fruit powders, along with other some “superfruits” we did not mention in the previous weeks.

In the second activity we will discuss if, in some circumstances, superfood could be harmful. Is it possible, for instance, to ingest too much of a specific micronutrient? Can there be an interaction between the content of a food (or some superfood) and the medications we are taking? And, as “superfoods” are often rich not only in micronutrients but also in phytochemicals, are there phytochemicals that can pose a health risk? This activity will conclude our discussion of superfoods by examining these, and a few other issues, trying to find an answer to this question.
