Upgrading and revitalizing Utrecht Central Station area

This case deals with the upgrading and revitalizing of Utrecht Central Station area. This station area is undergoing a complex and unique transformation process. Such a process in an existing urban area touches the interests of a large number of parties such as local residents, companies, users, citizens and operators. Successful implementation requires therefore a process of interaction and collaboration between a large number of parties.

In this report (that can be downloaded below), the theoretical framework, Revitaplan triangle, is presented first. Next, challenges of renovating and revitalizing Dutch inner cities are discussed followed by a description of the case Utrecht station area. Subsequently, the Revitaplan triangle framework is applied to the Utrecht case. Finally, some conclusions are drawn.
