Skip to 0 minutes and 8 seconds Welcome to week four of Teaching Computing. This week, we’ll look at approaches to assessing pupil learning. As we’ve already discovered, good computing lessons are varied in their nature, and there’s no one assessment tool that will do the job. You might want to focus your assessment on how pupils develop computational thinking as individuals, or think about the quick class plenaries, like the one we see in Chris’s lesson, or the pupil self-assessments that Jez tells us about. We know that pupils have great opportunities to take part in coding competitions and special events. This gives a real authentic feel to their work. One such event that we linked to this week is the Apps for Good Awards.

Skip to 0 minutes and 48 seconds This week, we’ll also look at some advice about what to expect when Ofsted pay a visit to your school to look at computing. The advice we have was developed in association with Ofsted’s computing lead, and gives you something to think about if you’re expecting a visit. We are now halfway through the course, so we welcome your reflections on the final step.
