Intellectual property (IP)

It’s important when working with film to give some consideration to intellectual property. Intellectual property governs ownership of creative works such as inventions, literary or artistic works, such as films.

When a studio creates a film they have the right to determine how that image or film is used, distributed and exhibited. So when we use film in class we need to ensure we are adhering to copyright guidance (our guide to accessing film content for use in class is also attached).

The BBC has useful guidance on making use of copyright material, for example from television, music, films and websites, which can be found here: What is Copyright?.
