Create an enquiry map
We would like you to have a go at completing your own enquiry map.
You will collaborate with other course participants to contribute to one of two enquiry maps. The theme is Animals, including humans. This topic is covered in every year group in the English National Curriculum. If you use a different curriculum you can select the topic that most closely matches this title.
Choose your year group or age of children, and have a look at the programmes of study or intended learning outcomes for that topic. Select one outcome and think of an enquiry that the children could carry out. You now need decide what type of enquiry this is and add your idea to the group enquiry map.
The enquiry maps are on Padlet. The Padlet has five columns and you can post to one or more columns on the map. You do not need to register an account to post to Padlet, but please do add your name to anything you post. Guidance on how to use Padlet.
- Choose which age group you will look at and go to the enquiry map Padlet for that age group:
Enquiry map 5-7 years old (Key stage 1)
Enquiry map 7-9 years old (Lower key stage 2)
Enquiry map 9-11 years old (Upper key stage 2)
- For each column, click the [+] icon to add a post.
- Each post should include an intended learning outcome and an enquiry that your pupils could carry out.
If you would like to complete more than one year group then please feel free.
Once you have completed your section take some time to read other people’s ideas. What do you notice about the coverage? What areas would need developing if this was one school’s enquiry map?
