Zoom in, zoom out
Zoom In, Zoom Out activities begin with showing children an extremely zoomed in image of something. The children suggest what it could be and are encouraged to give reasons for their suggestions.
As you slowly zoom out, pause regularly so that children can look closely to notice what has changed or has now been revealed. Allow the children time to wonder what it could be and to listen to each others’ ideas. Children will re-evaluate or strengthen their thinking and arguments to what the picture may be.
The video above goes through the different zoom levels for this ‘red and bumpy’ object. This video has no sound.
Pause the video at the different zoom levels and share what you think this is. Can you justify your answer?
Now unpause the video to zoom out. Keep challenging your ideas. Share your thinking in the discussion.
