Introduction to the course and educators.

Thanks for joining this course on entrepreneurship! Before we delve into some interesting and relevant facts about the entrepreneurial process, we will introduce you to the structure of the course.

During the next 3 weeks you will get a thematic introduction into the field of entrepreneurship. You will learn about key concepts along the entrepreneurial journey. You will also gain insights on how these concepts can benefit the concrete practice of becoming an entrepreneur. Next to the input from our educators, we provide a variety of assignments and examples from University Twente entrepreneurs.

Course structure

This course has the following structure:

• During week 1, we will introduce you to the concept of entrepreneurship, the lean startup methodology, and the concept of opportunity recognition. You will learn about the key steps of setting up a venture, and how the Lean Startup method can help in this effort. Also, you will explore the nature of opportunities and how best to recognize and evaluate them.
• Week 2 will focus on the next step in the entrepreneurial process, the opportunity development. Key to opportunity development is an intimate understanding of the customer or user that you are going to serve. You will learn how to segment and target these customers, so that you are able to develop a business that serves their needs. In addition, you will learn what types of prototypes are available to test if the business that you develop will live up to your intentions.
• In week 3, we will address the topic of opportunity exploitation. You will learn to identify and map key network partners that can help you to exploit your opportunity. Moreover, you will learn about the key building blocks of the cost and revenue model that gear towards the financial results of your venture.
