Skip to 0 minutes and 1 secondThis presentation is about building your own personal brand.

Skip to 0 minutes and 7 secondsWhat is personal branding? Branding is usually associated with a product or a company as we know. But it can apply to individuals as well, and in the same way. It's all about what you stand for in the minds of others.

Skip to 0 minutes and 25 secondsSo what can a personal brand do for you? Here are some of the advantages of being a little bit clearer about what it is that you want to stand for-- bringing focus, make you stand out, building opportunities, and actually inspiring others to support your goals.

Skip to 0 minutes and 48 secondsAnd at the heart of the personal brand is a brand purpose-- a sort of mission statement for your life and your career, which is going to evolve over time and which comes at the centre of these three circles. What are you passionate about? What are you good at? And actually, what does the lead need?

Skip to 1 minute and 9 secondsSo here are three steps to working out your own personal brand or purpose.

Skip to 1 minute and 20 secondsStep one, what are you really passionate about? What gets you up in the morning? What keeps you awake at night? What are your core values and beliefs? What are you for? What are you against? What experiences in your life have been the most fulfilling? And what impact do you want to make on the world in the next two years or five years or 10 years?

Skip to 1 minute and 46 secondsAnd then secondly, what are you actually good at? What would your employer or instructor say is your biggest strength? What would someone who works with you say? What job roles or activities have you been really brilliant at previously? What are the biggest achievements in your life so far? And then, as a bit of a joke, if you were a superhero, what would your superpowers be?

Skip to 2 minutes and 15 secondsAnd then finally, step three-- what does the world need? Given what you're passionate about and what you're good at, think about issues or themes in the world that you work in that you could do something about-- things that are broken or missing, something that the competition is failing at. What does the world need from you?

Skip to 2 minutes and 41 secondsAnd after all of that, you can build your own brand purpose. Richard Branson, for instance, has a brand purpose about changing business for good-- a purpose that he shares, by the way, with Virgin. But it is his own personal purpose too. And he puts a lot of personal time and energy into changing business.

Skip to 3 minutes and 7 secondsSo it might be worth creating your own personal action plan with your brand purpose, but also a roadmap-- where you want to be in five years or 10 years and organisations you would love to work for.
