# Heat capacity of ideal gases

For ideal gases, the relationship between $${C}$$$${p}$$ and $${C}$$$${v}$$ is

$${C}$$$${p}$$ - $${C}$$$${v}$$ = $${R}$$

The ideal gases have specific heat capacities

monoatomic ideal gas ∶  $${C}$$$${v}$$ = $$\frac{3}{2}$$ $${R}$$,  $${C}$$$${p}$$ = $$\frac{5}{2}$$ $${R}$$

diatomic ideal gas∶  $${C}$$$${v}$$ = $$\frac{5}{2}$$ $${R}$$,  $${C}$$$${p}$$ = $$\frac{7}{2}$$ $${R}$$
