Endocrine disorders can affect bladder function and be the cause of urinary incontinence. Read this article to find out more.

Endocrine disorders can affect bladder function and be the cause of urinary incontinence.

Some examples of this are:

  • Diabetes
    • Glycosuria glucose in urine
    • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Thyroid imbalance – thyroid imbalances are most commonly seen in women
    • Hypothyroidism (low thyroid levels) can cause retention of urine
    • Hyperthyroidism ( high thyroid levels) most commonly causes frequency and urgency. Other storage symptoms include urge incontinence, nocturia and nocturnal enuresis
  • Pituitary disorders
    • Arginine vasopressin/antidiuretic hormone disorders lead to nocturia or nocturnal enuresis
  • Oestrogen deficiencies
    • Atrophic vaginitis
