Summary of the week

This week you have learned about the sources of evidence that were used by lexicographers in the past and those that are used today.

You learned about corpora, annotation, and frequency in language and their role in lexicography.

You have also seen some of the challenges involved in drafting dictionary entries, including the selection of good dictionary examples.

By now you will be well equipped to dig deeper into the details of what is contained in a dictionary entry, in Weeks 5 and 6.

You will also be prepared for next week’s activities about how and why dictionaries include new words.
