What are we doing with the environment-related Sustainable Development Goals?

In this article, we discuss the importance of the environment and the related goals target at the Sustainable Development Goals.
the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit as a replacement for the Millennium Development Goals that expired at the end of 2015 to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. What this represents is an effort to consult with all people of the world to articulate what the global challenges are and set targets for addressing them. The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of targets relating to future international development. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. In relation to environment, these are the goals targeted:

  1. Progressively improve, by 2030, the efficient production and consumption of world resources and seek to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation, in accordance with the Ten-Year Framework of Programs on Sustainable Consumption and Production.

  2. Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

  3. Ensure sustainable consumption and production modalities.

  4. Adopt urgent measures to combat climate change and its effects.

  5. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

  6. Protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, fight desertification, stop and reverse land degradation and stop biodiversity loss.

Reflecting on the previous discussion activity, please respond to the following question:

Which of the Sustainable Development Goals (out of the six we have mentioned) are related to those environmental problems you identified in your local community?
