Welcome to Week 2

Welcome to week 2.

This week we will look at the clinical features of visceral leishmaniasis. Treatment of VL is not straightforward, not least because the drugs, when they are available, require considerable expertise to administer correctly. Treatment is also expensive and side effects can be a problem so it is important to recognise the symptoms of VL and diagnose it correctly.

You will learn best practice for using some diagnostic tests and their appropriate use in different endemic settings.

There will also be discussions on how to treat complex cases such as PKDL, paediatric patients, patients with HIV and patients presenting with relapsed VL.
