This week our focus is child development, containment and attachment. After completing this week you will begin to feel comfortable engaging with the following questions:

  • What is child development?
  • What is emotional containment?
  • What is attachment?
  • How do we assess attachment and child development?
  • What is the relationship between nature and nurture in the process of child development?

To achieve this you will watch videos outlining the concepts of child development, emotional containment and attachment. You will read about these concepts and begin to consider how parents and carers influence these processes through different parenting behaviours. By doing this you will reflect back upon material from week 1 concerning risk and vulnerability, and how this can impact upon the way in which children and young people grow and develop.
